At Least My Father Tried

My father had so many sayings that he repeated often through the years, ones like, “Do as I say, not as I do.”

For this one, he was ahead of his time, as it’s the mantra for many social media practitioners. I think he wrote this and forgot to put it into his pocket. Well he didn’t say this, but he lived it: always uncut and off-the-cuff.

Yeah Ken, wow… that is much more profound than it may seem at first glance. Listening without defending prevents the impluse to then attack (think or speak offensively) out of a perceived need to defend something. This is very similar to a really good mantra: “In my defenselessness, my safety lies.” As does my sense of peace…

Thanks for sharing. I enjoy our shared love of philosophy. 🙂
